My Protest As a Child.

Image
I grew up in a liberal home; a home where you don't wake up to order people around like a school principal does with junior secondary Students. I had a very lovely childhood. I was both Daddy and Mummy's child. However, one annoying trait about me was that I hardly agree with my siblings and friends on many issues. Each time we failed to come to a compromise, we fought and in some scenario, injuries were sustained. I really was heartless, they said because I fought with anything at site. Apart from that, I was a  fearless and amazing child. I could remember that in those nostalgic days, everyone feared my father because of his 'no nonsense' personality. Each time my senior brother and sister needed anything critical, they would send me to make such request on their behalf. This I did with the deepest peace anf happiness. Often, my father warned me to stop advocating for others, but I never saw anything wrong in what I was doing. I have always been myself from bir...

Yellow Flag : A Poem by Ben Onyekelu Olisa

Image
Take you the fearless rope A stoic act of cowardice Take you the shinny Dirk A beautiful act of injudiciousness Take you the voyage shortening Belladonna A promenade on a slippery tile Before you take the demure hut What about the jar of nine months? The dark room cries of a jar What about the lovely voices around? The merriment days that might have waned as What about tomorrow? The Joy that comes with the morning yellow sun They said you searched for the yellow flag You never would find it Because the Flag is you You're the Yellow Flag (Ben onyekelu olisa- a heavy pen series) Follow me on Twitter- Benjohnpaul 1 Instagram- BenOnyekeluOlisa Like my page at premiumwordssite@ Fb Pls tell us your mind on the comment Box Thanks so much.

Nigeria Arise : A Poem by Maduka Collins Smart.

Image
Crd: en         Arise, Oh my father land arise! From the slavery of foul leadership I beseach thee Arise oh that formally acclaimed giant of Africa. From the shackles of economic backtikism I beckon on thee From the continuous rape on democracy, I plead thee, arise! Why have you crown yourself with self  bounded statemen Instead of Patriotic bound statemen? 58 years of Independence or 58 years of dependence? Don't allow thy subjects behold the shame of 2020, without that great vision of 2020 If dead men do cry Zik will surely be in pool of tears If dead men do cry Marculay will be swimming in a pool of regrets, That that, which they fought for Has become a failed state I beckon on you, oh arise hat Small state shall not call you a failed state again. Arise oh! That formal acclaimed giant of Africa. Published by: Aheavypen Series. www.aheavypen.blogspot.com Follow me on Twitter- Benjohnpaul 1 ...

My Fruit Salad Girl

Image
When I finished buying some provisions, fruit salad tickled my Brian. And I have this one habit of being uncomfortable whenever I deny my self anything, be it National assembly game or state Assembly. Just anything, but here it was just fruit salad. There were up to three fruit sellers in that roll and none of them had fruit salad. On their tables and Barrow, you see groundnut, sliced and unsliced water melon, cucumber, pawpaw and pineapple. "Uncle Bia goteme m, uncle come and buy from me" the youngest of the beautiful girls fought for my hands. Imagine that, she won already. I was at first lost in abject indecision on who to buy from. Three of them took their bathe at omala river. They are beautiful, neat and friendly. That's the things I consider before I buy certain things. They all claimed to know what I want. "Uncle ama m ive ichoro. I have what you're looking for" (That was exactly her dialect, they all must be Nsukka indigenes) Final...

My OKADA Man

Image
Credit: Thetrent I was my father's able right hand man. That was in my primary and secondary school days, anyway. His Provision store and Bar was virtually my room, kitchen, parlour and everything. I spent most of my childhood days under his care (never as if mum wasn't close, I was Daddy's son). When I was preparing for common entrance examination, he swore to make sure that I attended a boarding school. It wasn't a cheerful gift by the way; he had expected me to say no because little boys in our neighborhood cried each time their parents declared that they would be going to boardinghouse. Sending you to a boarding school is more like a deterrence. It was almost synonymous with punishment, because when you go to boardinghouse, you're totally disconnected with the love that flows in the street. And those who went to boardinghouse narrated their horror experiences, ranging from seniors bullying you to a a compulsory morning devotion and the w...

The Vice Chancellor Credit: actov It was a night journey from Nnewi to Nsukka. We faithfully expected it to last for only 2 hours, but we weren't  fortunate enough to have a benevolent spirit that will crack our kernels for us. However, the cathedral of trauma that muffled our youthful voices on the journey, paved way for me to lay my humble eyes on that "Transport University" with a Vice Chancellor. I was forced into an ocean of peculiar imagination of on how this 'Transport University with a Vice Chancellor' would function because I deemed it impossible and impracticable. It was a hectic journey; we were packed side by side with heavy and dirty goods. In a row, you have a passenger and a heavy carton of machine parts. In some rows, you have carton of loads piled so high that if the Vice Chancellor accidentally jumps into potholes, it could possibly break a passenger's head, legs and arms, and you would receive sorry from 'All mass transit Vic...

Should He Not Rise Again?

If fate had done the right thing, he would have been in a higher class of life. His name is chijioke. He is tall; approximately five feet of height, ebony skin colour, oval face and a pointed nose. He wears Mohawk hair style, often sprayed. He left school with a Waec certificate and joined Ose Market, Onitsha. Seven years later, he was sacked by the master on alleged theft. This, I laughed in espanol, particularly on how people could be dazedly wicked and cruel. I find it vexed and untrue. There seamed to be no rust in the will of steel; he went back to his paternal home at  Abakiriki and started from square one. He is the second child out of the six children, yet plays the role of a father to the whole family. He ventured into farming but couldn't achieve great height in it. He left Abakariki for Anambra State and that was where I mate this young fellow. My mum has a small restaurant in a local precinct of Anambra State and once we are on vacation, I do help in running the sm...
